We understand that deciding to have eye surgery can be intimidating. Our team of experienced and compassionate professionals is here to guide you through the process every step of the way.

What is ReLEx SMILE Surgery?

ReLEx SMILE surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that corrects myopia and astigmatism. It utilizes the latest in laser technology to correct your vision. Unlike traditional LASIK surgery, ReLEx SMILE surgery does not require a corneal flap; the laser is used to reshape the underlying tissue to correct your vision with less discomfort, quicker healing time, and faster visual recovery.

What to Expect During Your ReLEx SMILE Surgery

The ReLEx SMILE surgery procedure typically takes less than 15 minutes to complete. Before your surgery, we will administer numbing eye drops to ensure your comfort.

You’ll then lie on the treatment table, and the surgeon will begin the procedure. You may feel a little pressure from the suction ring placed on your cornea, but you should not experience any pain. The surgeon will use the laser to create the lenticule-shaped disc of tissue within the cornea and a side cut where the lenticule will be removed.

After the procedure, you’ll rest in a recovery area for a short period before being released to go home. You’ll need to arrange transportation as you cannot drive yourself home. You may experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity to light for a few days after the procedure, but this should resolve quickly. You will need someone to drive you home after your ReLEx SMILE procedure. You should take the day off from anything that requires using your vision, like watching television, working, or reading. Your surgeon will prescribe eye drops to prevent infection. Use these as directed.

You’ll notice improved vision after your surgery and blurry vision for several weeks. You can resume normal activities within one to two days. Avoid activities such as swimming or high-impact sports until your doctor clears you.
